Parents of our patients with Autism -Speak Out!

Video editing is not the easiest trick to learn, but I’ve done it!

A few of the parents of the children in our Microcurrent Study of how the Electro-Proscope 360 device is effective in treating Autism volunteered to be in our parent testimonial video.  If you have a child, or know someone, with Autsim, you’ll understand just how powerful these parents’ stories are….

Thankful for Food Aversions… said no one ever!

turkeytableAs Thanksgiving approaches, our thoughts are often filled with savory memories from our youth of family get-togethers and holiday recipes that make us feel right at home. If you have a child with sensory issues surrounding foods, do you wonder how they will look back on their youth and this time of year? As they grow up, will the holiday season bring memories of fights, meltdowns and just overall unhappiness?? I’m certain you do not wish that for your child, and as such you may be feeling mounting stress as this food-focused holiday looms.

A quick Google search showed me that there are many articles out there recommending ways to help your picky eaters overcome their “selective eating” or “food aversions”. Strategies like keeping a cavalier attitude about it all, eating the food yourself, first, in front of the child, modifying the eating behaviors of the entire family, raw vs. cooked presentations, arranging the food into shapes and faces, and so on. Yet, for children with true sensory processing issues, most of those strategies simply do not work.

Well for those of you foodAversionout there who have tired everything, from a feeding therapist to sensory integration therapy, and your child still gags at the sight or smell of certain foods I have fantastic news! Microcurrent therapy lessens the intensity of ALL sensory aversions. All of the patients I have treated who have sensory processing issues showed decreased sensory sensitivity as a result of this treatment! These kids began tasting and eating new foods, and even some of the most sensitive eaters changed their entire diet. A patient who could not / would not eat meat of any kind, started -not just eating, but asking for- meals like beef tacos, fried chicken and ribs! Her parents were shocked, yet so excited for this change in their daughter’s eating habits.

As if that isn’t exciting enough, other sensory aversions decreased in intensity also! Aversions to things like public bathrooms, theme parks and rollercoasters, fabric textures, teeth brushing, swimming pools, and so on!

Call us and start your child on the road to sensory recovery today! Even if you are outside of San Diego County, we can help you locate a Microcurrent therapy provider in your area. www.microcurrent4kids.com

** The numbers don’t lie** The patients we have seen with serious sensory aversions, have all improved their sensory scores on the ATEC by 30% – 50%. Here are a few actual patient scores, after 3 months of microcurrent treatment: (the lower the score the better)

  • 9/36 to 0/36
  • 16/36 to 2/36
  • 18/36 to 6/36
  • 19/36 to 2/36
  • 22/36 to 7/36

Concussions: A Follow-Up to Safety Awareness Month

42-15487553Each year, thousands of children and teens suffer a concussion — and only about half are sports related.  A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) caused by a blow or jolt to the head or body that causes the brain to shake, and possibly hit the inside of the skull. The shaking and/or hit against the skull may impact the brain’s ability to function and can result in serious side effects. Surprisingly, only 10 percent of children with concussions report “being knocked out”, or loosing consciousness. Some of the symptoms of a concussion can appear immediately after the injury, while others may not show up for several days.

Your child should ALWAYS see a primary care doctor if you think s/he has a concussion. The primary care physician can discuss symptoms and help you create a plan of care.  That plan will consist of physical and mental rest.  It is important to allow sufficient time for the brain to rest, so that it is able to heal.  Your child should stay home from school until the symptoms are significantly improved. You will need to reintroduce mental activity slowly, as your child feels better. Your pediatrician can help guide this gradual process.

However, missing school for any length of time (and not doing homework to stay current) can be a huge set back -not just academically, but emotionally as well.  The best way to speed healing of the brain after a concussion is to have your child treated with a course of microcurrent therapy.  MicroCurrent Healing and MicroCurrent 4 Kids uses the most advanced microcurrent devices on the market, equipped with technology that seeks out damaged tissue and auto-corrects it’s signal to send the most beneficial and healing current directly to the areas that need it the most. No other treatment can do this!  The results are a quicker recovery, less time missed from school, and far fewer concerns about the potential long-term consequences of this type of injury.

June is Safety Awareness Month

So I am sharing some summer sport safety tips to keep your child playing hard all summer long!

Protective Gear –Helmets are obviously the number one used protective item.  And most parents are sure to buy them for their kids when they get new bikes, scooters, or skateboards.  However, as your child’s skill set and confidence grows, he/she may be more likely to stop wearing a helmet, or stop wearing it correctly.  Regularly check-in with your kids and re-emphasize the importance of continuing to use helmets, and of fastening the straps.  Wearing a helmet with an unbuckled chinstrap is like not wearing a helmet at all.

Warming Up –Your job as a parent is to set your child up for a win –literally and figuratively.  Arriving prior to a practice or game with enough time to allow your child to jog for a few minutes and stretch will ensure your child’s body is set up to win.  Slow, gradual stretching helps lengthen muscles and increases circulation and muscle temperature. That way, your child’s muscles are ready to go and are much less likely to get hurt.

Staying Hydrated –When compared to adults, kids are at an increased risk of becoming dehydrated.  In part, because their bodies are less effective at sweating yet they can produce more heat during exercise.  And I’m sure you know from watching your kids play, they often get so wrapped up in what they’re doing that they forget to break for a drink.  That’s why it’s important for parents to help them stay hydrated.  Look for creative ways to encourage your child to drink water throughout the day and at meal times, not just during physical activity.

Don’t let them Play when they’re Injured -This is a really important one. If your child loves sports, it’s tempting to let him/her get right back in the game, even after an injury. But allowing them to play when they’re hurt — or before an injury has had a chance to fully heal — is a bad idea. It can lead to an even worse injury, one that might sideline him/her for a very long time.  You should seek appropriate medical care, but you can also look into ways to help your child heal faster!  MicrocurrentHealing has helped many student athletes get back on the field, MUCH faster than if they had only followed their doctor’s orders for ice, rest, and elevation.  Click here to read about this amazing, safe, and non-invasive technique.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Here at Microcurrent4kids we want to share with you important information about your child’s mental health as well as the ways we treat mental conditions. Keeping in step with Mental Health Awareness, our focus this month will be on ADHD.
ADHD, the acronym for Attention Deficiency Hyperactivity Disorder, is often experienced in children from a tender age. These children usually experience hyperactivity, difficulty in staying focused, paying attention and controlling impulsive behaviors. As such, kids struggling with ADHD are at a high risk for academic difficulties. Some of the causes of ADHD include genetics, environmental factors and brain injuries.
Our genetic makeup effects us in every way you may think of. From our skin complexion to our toes nails, all of these features have been inherited from our parents who got them from their parents. Similarly, some diseases and conditions can be inherited -including ADHD. Environmental Factors also influence our mental health. From what we eat, where we live, the conditions in our homes, schools and the society at large influences our mental health and thus our behavior. Brain injuries can also be the source of ADHD. Though very rare in young children, brain injuries can cause damage to the brain, altering behavior and the mental capacity of the child.

ADHD
It is crucial to have your child checked out if you are suspicious of a sudden change in behavior, either in lack of concentration or lack of behavioral inhibition. Our program is designed to help your child grow and develop by managing and possibly extinguishing any such conditions.   Read more at http://microcurrent4kids.com/science.html

April is Autism Awareness Month

So this month I am discussing the research and development of our Autism treatment protocols.

Autism
All humans have several brain wavelengths, or frequencies, used at various times throughout a given day. The most commonly used wavelengths are referred to as delta, theta, alpha, and beta. Recent EEG studies of children with severe Autism, high-functioning Autism, and typically-developing children, have found strong patterns in the brain wavelengths of those three groups. These patterns show that children with high-functioning Autism and their typically-developing peers use very similar wavelengths at similar times, but most importantly they use alpha most frequently. Conversely, children with severe Autism use alpha the very least. Therefore our treatment protocols are focused on the alpha wavelength, training the patient’s brain to use the alpha frequency more often, and independently. Coupled with the natural detoxification that occurs with microcurrent treatment, this alpha frequency therapy shows great promise with lasting improvements for our patients!
